Malayalam superstar Prithiviraj plays the cool super villain with remarkable ease and you actually feel sorry when he is killed as he did infuse some colour in this otherwise bland film. The agency's best guy is shown to be in a supportive role for the said mission. Then, despite being a complete rookie, she's sent to assasinate someone who has killed experienced operatives in the past. Yes, she desires revenge but that doesn't make her any better than millions who have lost their loved ones through some tragedy. Now why would they spend their time and money to do that, considering there is nothing remarkable about her? She isn't even a national level athelte. We are told that the agency was keeping track of Shabana's movements for the last five years as they thought she was a possible recruit. We also get to see Shuklaji (Anupam Kher) lending logistical support. The agency's finest agent, Ajay Singh Rajput (Akshay Kumar) comes across to help her. The focus then shifts to Kuala Lampur where her first mission is to kill a dreaded arms dealer. Then, she's led to a hideout straight out of Bond films to further hone her skills and given weapons training.
She agrees and we see her remorselessly execute her boyfriend's killer in cold blood. Their condition is that she should agree to be part of the agency after the revenge. Her boyfriend gets killed by four well-connected youths and she's given the means to avenge him by a mysterious agency.
We learn that she is a talented Kudo player who lives with her widowed mother. Taapsee Pannu's short but fiery role as agent Shabana Khan in the 2015 film Baby was much appreciated and filmmaker Neeraj Pandey decided to make a movie revolving around the character. Spinoffs have been in vogue in Hollywood for a while and Hindi film industry is slowly catching in on the trend.
